Thomas D’Amico, L.M.T.

Thomas D’Amico is a graduate of New York College of Health Professions, and a Licensed Massage Therapist. He specializes in Swedish, Medical, Asian and Deep Tissue Massage. Tom’s Deep Tissue techniques focus on the deeper layers of muscle tissue; aiming to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow movement, and deep, gentle pressure. His massage is ideal for clients who enjoy the focused work of Deep Tissue massage as well as for those who like the flowing stokes of Swedish massage.

Tom’s interest in massage therapy began in the 1970’s as an athlete, and martial artist. Over the years, his bodywork developed when his son was stricken with bronchial asthma. Although his doctors did all they could, Tom was still not completely satisfied with the length of time it took for his son to breath normally. He studied a book on Shiatsu, which is a Japanese healing art combining massage and acupressure and reduced the healing time in half.

Tom quickly developed a knack for finding peoples’ stress points by combining his training in massage therapy with his thirty five years of martial arts and energy cultivating training (Fut Sao Wing Chun, Karate, full contact kick boxer, Tai Chi Chuan Qi Gong, and Acupressure). With that type of experience he can directly relate to the various ailments that athletes of all types confront.

Tom has always had an interest in teaching his clients to practice relaxation techniques. Most people have no idea how much benefit they can derive from regularly practicing simple breathing, visualization, and movement exercises. Massage Therapy can increase its efficiency if the client knows how to maintain a routine of stress-relief self-care.

As a part of his volunteer efforts, Thomas has performed massage for the Hospice Care Network, caring for patients with advanced illness.

Tom is a retired N.Y.P.D. police officer. He is married for the past 27 years to his wife Margaret, a devoted mother of their son Thomas, and their daughter Catherine.
